About the Project

Generation Exile is a turn-based city-builder taking place aboard a generation starship where instead of extracting more and more natural resources to meet your populace’s needs, you only have what you brought with you. Rebuild the ship’s fragile ecosystems before the ship reaches the end of its journey. Procedurally generated characters and storylines mean that every journey—spanning several hundred years—will be uniquely yours.

You are aboard humanity’s first and final generation ship, a last-chance expedition now teetering on the rim of collapse. One step at a time you must rebuild society and the ship’s fragile ecosystems—using only what you brought with you.

My Role

  • Served as the initial narrative director in the project’s early stages
  • Helped develop the game premise, themes, narrative world, factions, and dynamic plots
  • Designed systems for procedural plots and character bindings based on my dissertation work
  • Designed and implemented narrative simulation rules and narrative events in custom tools for Unity
