Unannounced Project

About the Project

Telltale Games had a long history of fostering R&D by making small games outside of their mainline catalogue as a way to lessen the risk of developing new technologies and trying out new approaches to their games.

When I joined the R&D team, Telltale had been working on procedural narrative in various forms for quite some time, and wanted to see how it might develop procedural systems that made their stories feel maximally responsive. When I came on, I worked with the team to develop a series of prototypes for what a new style of radically responsive Telltale game might look like. Eventually we landed on a concept that was greenlit by the studio. It was sadly cancelled during Telltale’s famous layoffs & subsequent closure.

My Role

  • Prototyped and developed originating design for the game and became the creative lead for the team
  • Designed core systems and content: procedural plot system, character relationship simulation, drama management system, radically responsive choice system, narrative scenarios, character behavior
  • Worked with partner IP and creative teams to develop narrative aspects of the game including plot, character arcs, world building
